Distressed members of an Ipswich high-school community are being supported after a recently employed teacher indecently treated a child.

Staff and students at an Ipswich high-school have been offered counselling support after revelations earlier this week a beloved ex-music teacher will plead guilty to a count of indecently treating a child under the age of 16.

North Ipswich man Morgan John Hann, 37, a former Bremer State High School teacher, fronted Ipswich Magistrates Court on Wednesday where his defence solicitor David Chambers indicated a plea of guilty would be entered after additional counts of grooming a child and possessing child exploitation material were dropped by the prosecution.

The indecent treatment is alleged to have occurred at Ipswich on a date between June 9 and June 15, 2019.

It's understood the offending does not relate to a Bremer SHS student.

Mr Hann was charged with the offence on December 4, 2019 with his teacher’s registration suspended from the following day.

The Queensland Times understands Mr Hann had been teaching at the school since at least 2018, with the school on social media in late-2017 referring to him as a “friend” of Bremer SHS.

The school was contacted on Wednesday twice for comment, but directed questions to the Department of Education.

A representative of the department said it was aware that charges have been laid against a former employee of Bremer SHS.

“The department is unable to comment on matters before the courts,” the representative said.

“Support services are available for anyone who may require assistance.”

When asked to clarify what was meant by support services, the representative clarified “school guidance counsellor or staff assist programs are available for anyone triggered (by the news)”.

An indictment is yet to be presented to the Ipswich District Court.

Mr Hann’s sentence will follow at a future date.
