A man has faced court charged with attempted murder after a woman was hospitalised with serious burns in Gatton, west of Brisbane, last month.

Gatton strawberry picker Jon Koii faced Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with attempted murder (domestic violence offence).

The 53-year-old, from Papua New Guinea, was charged following an incident last month on Monday, June 10.

A police spokesman said emergency services were called to a Wiggins St property about 2.30am after reports of a woman sustaining serious burns.

She was transported to Toowoomba Hospital and Mr Koii was later remanded in custody.

It’s understood that the woman has since been transported to another hospital.

On Friday, July 5, Mr Koii was represented in court by Legal Aid lawyer Ann-Maree Russo.

The prosecution requested a 10-week adjournment to receive evidence from police and disclose it to the defence.

The court heard the delay was due to “the nature of the charge and the current medical status of the complainant”.

The matter was adjourned to September 20.

Mr Koii was remanded in custody.
