Conan Munday: Ipswich man jailed for home invasion, booze heist

An Ipswich man stole thousands in booze from Dan Murphy’s and tools from Bunnings and participated in a terrifying burglary.

An Ipswich man raided bottle shops seven times, pocketing booze to the tune of $6000, as well as participated in a terrifying home invasion involving four offenders and a hammer.

Ripley man Conan Kenneth Munday, 35, pleaded guilty via videolink in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Friday to 17 offences.

They included 11 charges of stealing, two charges of failing to appear and one each of burglary, entering premises to commit an indictable offence and contravene a direction of police.

The court heard 12 of the 17 offences were committed while Munday was subject to a suspended sentence.

His offending occurred between December 30 last year and August 30 when he was remanded in pre-sentence custody.

His multiple thefts related to Chemist Warehouse, Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Coles, Bunnings Warehouse outlets that were targeted.

Munday stole $1500 of equipment from Bunnings Warehouses at Loganholme and Browns Plains; $400 of groceries from Coles Ripley; six bottles of perfume from Chemist Warehouse Ipswich; $80 of booze from BWS Redbank Plaza; and about $6000 worth from Dan Murphy’s outlets at Oxley, Yamanto, Booval and Redbank Plains.

The burglary related to an incident on August 1 when four men, including Munday, arrived at a residence to chase a purported debt, with one of the men arming himself with a hammer.

The terrified occupants of the residence locked themselves inside, but Munday and the others snapped the door off, smashed the television inside and stole an Xbox console.

Magistrate Virginia Sturgess described Munday’s offending as “brazen and significant”.

He was sentenced to 20 months’ imprisonment with parole release after he has served six months.
