A father-of-five who was months away from getting married remains in a coma after suffering life-threatening brain injuries in a fall from an e-scooter southwest of Brisbane.
Mikey Valdivia, who turned 40 two days before the incident and was due to be married in August, suffered significant head injuries.
Police said he was riding south along Springfield Parkway when he lost control and crashed on April 28.
Paramedics took him to Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
There has been no change in condition for Mr Valdivia in the past two weeks.
His Glasgow Coma Scale score - which measures levels of consciousness - remains at the lowest possible level.
His future sister-in-law Cassie McMurray is hoping for a miracle.
“He’s a great dad. He absolutely loves his kids. He’s very selfless,” she said.
“Our main priority is him actually waking up and still being here with us.
“I just hope he comes out of it with as little brain damage that he possibly can.”
Family friend Emily Potter said she felt upset learning what happened.
“They were going to be getting married in August in Bali with their kids, and he was looking so forward to it,” she said.
“He’s a really hard worker, really good dad, good partner, great friend, a very genuine authentic person.”
It comes while a landmark parliamentary inquiry looks into the use of personal mobility devices including e-scooters, following rising deaths and serious injuries.
The inquiry will run for almost a year and canvass everything from where scooters can be parked to restrictions on the import of commercial and private devices.
Police urged anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant dashcam videos to come forward as investigations remained ongoing.
A gofundme account has been established to help cover rent and other living expenses, including necessities for the children, transport and costs related to Mikey’s care and uncertain recovery journey.
