A Logan childcare worker and self-proclaimed alcoholic has faced court after ambushing and assaulting her boyfriend’s ex-partner for “speaking sh*t”.
Kingston woman Titian Cecile Leon, 26, pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on June 29, 2023, to assault occasioning bodily harm in company, entering a dwelling with intent while in company, and stealing.
The court heard Leon had been arguing with her boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend over text for a few weeks prior to the incident.
The messages escalated over that time and at one stage involved comments made about Leon’s deceased family members, the court heard.
On October 18, 2022, Leon went to the ex-girlfriend’s home in Brassall, Ipswich, allegedly accompanied by two other women.
Leon waited around the corner for the ex-girlfriend to arrive home around 8pm, and then “confronted” her at the front door.
Magistrate Robert Walker said Leon argued with the ex-girlfriend, who was attempting to get inside, but the door was then allegedly forced open by one of the women with Leon.
Once the door was open, Leon went inside and punched the ex-girlfriend around five times in the head, the court heard.
Mr Walker said Leon then asked her: “Are you going to stop speaking sh*t now?”
The other two women allegedly stole two handbags, an iPhone, and some money and cigarettes from the victim.
Mr Walker noted that when police arrived, the victim was too afraid to make a complaint out of fear of repercussion.
Her injuries included a cut on her foot, along with bruising and swelling around her ear.
Leon later told police that her boyfriend, the victim’s ex-boyfriend, had been the one to drop her off at the house.
Mr Walker noted the boyfriend had not been charged with any wrongdoing.
Police prosecutor Bridie O’Shea said the offending was “nothing short of appalling,” but she also acknowledged Leon had minimal criminal history.
The court heard Leon had only ever worked in childcare, but had lost her blue card as a result of the offending.
Defence lawyer Matt Gemmell said his client’s actions had been influenced by alcohol.
Leon had been diagnosed with alcohol use disorder and struggled with ongoing mental health issues.
Mr Gemmell noted his client still labelled herself as an alcoholic, despite her engagement in an alcohol recovery program.
He said she was a “prime vessel” for rehabilitation and had offered to pay $2500 in compensation to the victim.
Mr Walker decided against ordering financial compensation, as it had not been submitted for by the prosecution.
He acknowledged there were a number of “glowing” references attesting to Leon’s character, and that she had the support of her mother and friend in court.
Leon was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, wholly suspended for an operational period of two years.
