A young Ipswich man has mouthed off at a magistrate, calling him a “f***ing dog” and smacking the camera that was projecting his face to the court, while applying for bail.
Bodie John Mclean, 23, of Raceview appeared in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday June 4 via video-link from custody after he was charged with a number of offences including fraud, stealing, possessing used utensils or pipes, possessing dangerous drugs, breaching bail, and failing to appear in accordance with an undertaking.
Defence solicitor Peter Sloane said his client intended to plead guilty to all charges except for two: One of failing to appear and one of breaching bail.
Mr Sloane told the court Mclean had advised him he had been in hospital between June 17 and 25, which was the reason for him not appearing in court when required and breaching bail.
Magistrate Dennis Kinsella discussed having Mclean stay in custody for another night, so he and his lawyer could acquire material that would support his supposed medical-related reasoning for not meeting his obligations.
Mclean could be heard through the video-link calling Mr Kinsella a “f***ing dog” before hitting the camera that was projecting his face to the court.
“F***ing let me go,” he said.
Mr Kinsella told Mclean he was on thin ice, particularly as he was only being kept in custody for another night so he had “a shot” at being released on bail.
“Mr Mclean, I suggest to you you change your attitude quick smart,” Mr Kinsella said.
“Because if you’re going to keep playing up like this, I’m not giving you bail. And stop talking back to me.”
Mr Kinsella told Mr Sloane his client was talking him out of granting bail.
The application will continue in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday, July 5. Mclean will again appear via video-link from custody.
