A woman who was "tackled" by an off-duty police officer has been charged following a horrific car rollover which caused significant damage and left debris strewn over an Ipswich street.
Two offenders remained outstanding after a car crash at Rosemary Street in Bellbird Park, a A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said on Sunday.
The crash happened at about 5pm on Sunday afternoon, and police including PolAir were seen tracking the offenders who ran into nearby bushland.
A woman, who wished to remain anonymous, heard the crash and told the Queensland Times it was a miracle nobody had been injured.
“I was in the pool when I heard the accident so I ran out to see if anyone needed help,” she said.
“It was just that vehicle. I appeared to have veered right and crashed for no obvious reason.
“It was a couple in the car together.
“Luckily there was no one around, I’m amazed they (the offenders) both climbed out uninjured.
The woman said an off duty police officer happened to be driving past at the time off the crash.
“There was an off-duty officer driving who stopped just as they were running off into the bush,” she said.
The witness said she saw the off-duty officer "tackle" a young woman.
On Monday a police spokesperson said a 24-year-old Redbank Plains woman was charged with one charge of obstructing a police officer and will appear in Ipswich Magistrates Court on March 16.
“They (police) stayed for a couple of hours until they instructed the tow truck driver to take the car.”
Items including a machete were found at the scene.
The Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the search had been called off later on Sunday night but the outstanding offenders were known to police.
She said there was nothing to suggest the crashed car had been stolen.
Investigations into the crash are continuing.
