Hail the Taverners Qld Girls Under-16 premiers, the Ipswich Hornets, who have claimed the coveted Paul Pink Shield.

Ipswich, coached by Melissa Lewis and captained by Queensland under 16 skipper Lauren Patterson, claimed an eight wicket win over Valley, reeling in Valley’s 6-82 with 9.3 overs to spare.

“I’m extremely proud of the girls,’’ coach Lewis said.

“They played an almost perfect game on Friday night and were the dominant team across the entire competition.

“They leaned into the type of cricket I wanted them to play and took on the challenge at every turn.’’

Lewis said the squad had done something no other Ipswich Paul Pink team has been able to do, and that’s win a championship.

“The future looks bright for our club with these girls coming through the ranks,’’ Lewis said.

As a result four players from the Hornets, and an awesome foursome from the Gold Coast Dolphins, provided most players for our Team of the Season.

Right arm medium pace Ipswich bowler Olivia Williams, who made our Team of the Season (see below) was the star, claiming 3-4 from her four overs.

She bowled as straight as a dire, claiming her victims bowled, LBW or caught and bowled.

It was a great performance, although around her all the bowlers kept the pressure on, including slow bowler Ruby Staunton who took two wickets.

Right arm slow bowler Annabelle Callaghan also dismissed Valley’s highest scorer, Chelsea Dale, for 32 (44 balls).

Fast bowler Marley Stokes also stormed in late, while fellow fast bowler Lucy Williams and Sage Martin kept things tight.

When Ipswich batted, Valley spearhead Chelsea Dale dismissed the dangerous Patterson and caught Martin off Madison Laing’s bowling.

However, Lucy Williams (23 not out) and Rhiannon Beer (21 not out) pushed their side swiftly to victory.

Among the first players chosen in our Team of the Season were Olivia Williams, who took a competition high 11 wickets, her teammate Patterson and Gold Coast pair Alvina Rauf and Annika Bjorkman.

The entertaining Rauf, who tends to bat without fear of getting out, scored 159 runs and Bjorkman made 151 during tremendous seasons.

Patterson was the competition’s best keeper and would be captain.

Norths Bridie Swain also made a season high score of 95, while Sandgate-Redcliffe’s Aarcha Gautham did well, including a highest score of 77.

Uditi Ratnala (Gold Coast) and Abigail Burgess (Norths) both finished with seven wickets apiece across the competition, while Georgia Black (Wests) chipped away with six wickets, but kept things tight.
