Keen to watch Silver's approach to dump

It will be intriguing to follow the progress of any development application through Ipswich City Council's PD Online service

COUNCILLOR Kerry Silver has been reported as promising that she will "represent the community" on any development application for the expansion of the New Chum Dump (QT 28/12).

Readers may not realise that under the present delegation rules, she along with the chairperson of the Planning Committee, Councillor David Morrison, has the capacity to decide whether any development application comes to a vote in the Council chamber or is decided within the planning department.

This capacity arises because the New Chum Dump is within the boundaries of Division 3, which Cr Silver represents.

To this degree Crs Silver and Morrison may be the only two councillors who actually get to vote on the application.

It will be intriguing to follow the progress of any development application through Ipswich City Council's PD Online service.

Through this site, we should be able to determine how Cr Silver defines "representing the community".
