Don't let Bribie fall prey to greedy developers

Keep Bribie a modest and quiet abode, rather than what developers can cram in to make money

I HAVE lived on Bribie Island for the past 17 years and for the most part I have seen changes to our lifestyle as reasonably good.

However, I am concerned about the recent high-rise buildings affecting the density of living and effect on what was a quiet peaceful place to live.

I think it is time that the population influx now be considered enough to retain Bribie's lifestyle.

There is adequate space off the island to maintain growth in the area without high-rises or further development on the island which is causing problems with parking, access to beaches and parking and of course access to health specialists and parking at the shopping venues.

I would like to see a plan on a population cap and what Moreton Bay Council intend in terms of retaining Bribie Island as a pleasant, quiet retreat for its inhabitants and those who visit for holidays.

Keep Bribie a modest and quiet abode, rather than what developers can cram in to make money.

Fuel pricing in federal government hands

THE Federal Government's Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has identified fuel price transparency as a national issue that is not unique to Queensland.

I welcome the ACCC's commitment in Estimates last week to inquire into the fuel price cycle this year.

Unlike the Queensland Opposition, the Palaszczuk Government is not content to sit on the sidelines and throw stones.

We already have put an end to misleading price boards. From January 31 this year, the price you see is the price you pay. And we have written to the Federal Treasurer urging him to take national action.

State Opposition leader Deb Frecklington is fully aware that it is the Federal Government which must take the lead. To blame anyone else is yet another case of her protecting her federal allies at the expense of Queenslanders.

While I look forward to the Federal Treasurer's response, I am not holding my breath.

In the interim, we are working with stakeholders, including the RACQ, towards finding an effective solution for Queensland motorists.

I'd encourage motorists to shop around using apps and support retailers offering the best price.

Thanks for support after passing of my father

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank all the people who helped me in the past month since my father's passing.

Firstly, the staff at Ipswich General Hospital, whose compassion and efforts were much appreciated.

Secondly, Bernadette and her crew at St Mary's Parish for organising such a nice service for us.

A special thanks to Father Nicholas, for his kind words which really helped me keep it together on the day. Also the funeral company for their help and assistance. Next, to the members and staff of Brothers League Club and Social Golf Club - your caring words and well wishes were welcome.

Lastly, to my relatives and close friends - you were a rock to stand on for me.

I'd like to give a big wrap to all the staff of Nowlanvil Home at Raceview. They did a wonderful job.
