A man killed when the excavator he was driving plunged 300m into a gully last has been remembered as a beloved father of two as his community rallies behind his family.

Murray “Muzz” Bell, 46, was tragically killed when the excavator he was operating rolled and fell 300m down a gully at a farm southwest of Brisbane.

It is understood Mr Bell owned and operated City Country Earthworx.

He was doing contract work on a farm at Undullah on Wednesday, March 8, about 5.30pm when the excavator he was operating rolled.

His wife, Kaylene Bell, shared the tragic news on social media.

“Hold your love ones tight, tell them how much you love them,” Mrs Bell said.

“You don’t know if they will be home again.

“Muzz passed away yesterday in an excavator accident. I miss my soulmate and father to our children.

“Not sure how I'm going to do life without you hun.”

Close friends of the family have also started a GoFundMe page, and the local community has been rallying and already raised more than $1500.

Tanya and Michael Welch set up the campaign for their beloved friend.

“As some people may be aware, Murray ‘Muzz’ Bell tragically passed away suddenly in an excavator accident this week,” Mr Welch said.

“Muzz touched the lives of many but none more so than his loving family.

“This fund is set up for friends, family, work colleagues and the wider community to support Murray’s wife Kaylene and their beautiful children Chloe and Brayden during this difficult time.

“Any amount big or small will be beneficial to the family in this extremely difficult time and no doubt will be greatly appreciated.”

Ipswich Little Athletics also took to social media to share their condolences.

“Murray was an ex-Ipswich athlete and son of life member Ann Bell,” the post read.

“Muzz, as he was affectionately known, was sadly taken from us on Wednesday evening in a work accident at age 46, leaving behind wife Kaylene and two beautiful children.

“Our deepest sympathies and love go out to Murray’s entire family at this difficult time.”

Meanwhile, hundreds of other Scenic Rim and Ipswich locals have flooded to social media to share their deepest condolences.

“I’m so very sorry for your loss. I can’t imagine what you’re all going through. Thinking of you and your family at this very sad time,” one said.

“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Murray,” another said.

“Losing a loved one is one of the most difficult experiences a person can go through, and my heart goes out to you … please know that you are in my thoughts and that I offer my sincerest condolences. May you find strength and comfort in the support of loved ones and in the memories you shared with your family,” one person quoted.

Last week, police confirmed the tragic circumstances which saw Mr Bell ejected from the excavator after it rolled, causing him to fall another 100m away from the machinery.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services reported difficulty accessing the area due to rough terrain and limited phone service.

Police and QFES remained on site until late Thursday to retrieve Mr Bell’s body.

Police investigations were continuing.
