Meth-addict mum Alinta May Suey faces 14 charges in Ipswich court

Meth-addict mum of three who said she “had a lot going on” when she failed to appear in accordance with parole requirements has narrowly avoided jail time.

A mum of three children says she is determined to spend more time with her children after narrowly dodging a jail term.

Former Riverview resident Alinta May Suey, 37, pleaded guilty in to fourteen charges in Ipswich Magistrate’s Court on Friday, April 8.

The most recent charge, failing to appear for parole, happened on March 25 2022.

Suey apparently “had a lot going on” and “forgot” that she needed to appear for parole that day.

The other charges included several drug-related offences, breaches of bail and counts of stealing, along with one count of unauthorised dealing with shop goods, one count of entering premises and committing an indictable offence, and one count of wilful damage.

With a history of methamphetamine addiction, stealing and similar parole breaches, Suey expressed her desire to clean up her act for the sake of her children.

“Me and my kids are getting older. I don’t get that time back,” she said.

The court heard that Suey’s five-year-addiction to methamphetamine had contributed to many of her offences.

Suey completed a 10-week rehab program in Caboolture last November.

She claims to have been drug-free for eight months, and her urine samples have tested clean for several months now.

Suey recently moved from Riverview to Stafford, partially in a deliberate move to separate herself from previous methamphetamine suppliers.

Acting Magistrate Geoffrey Seaholm cautioned Suey to avoid falling back into her addiction, unless she wanted her children to be visiting her in prison on Mother’s Day.

She was released on parole with a head sentence of 12 months imprisonment and further required to pay restitution equal to $717.23 to Woolworths Marsden for stealing offences committed on March 25 2021.
