Ipswich motorcyclist David-John Phillips dies in Tamborine Mountain fatal

A tight-knit community is raising funds to support a family who lost their “beloved pop, husband and father” in a horrific motorcycle crash west of Brisbane.

A motorcyclist who died in a horrific crash west of Brisbane has been remembered as a “beloved” pop, husband and father as his community rallies around his family.

Ipswich resident David-John Phillips, 61, died after the two-vehicle accident at Tamborine Mountain on January 14 with police investigations indicating the crash happened just before 10.45am on Tamborine Mountain Rd.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help raise funds for Mr Phillips’ funeral with more than $8000 already raised.

Charlotte Colverson, who created the fundraiser for the family, said they lost a “very dear life” in the accident.

“A loving husband, proud father, pop and pop pop,” she said.

“As our family is getting by in such a tragic time, I would just like to reach out to our amazing community, our close loved ones and amazing friends, anything will be appreciated as they are trying to find their way through these horrific circumstances.

“Thank you everyone for all the love and support.

“Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”

Close friend Di Perry took to Facebook to share a tribute to Mr Phillips.

“My heart breaks tonight for this beautiful family, my condolences go out to his beautiful wife, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and absolutely anyone that knew him,” she said.

“Dave was the most down to earth man you’ll ever meet, he was there for anyone that needed him.

“The loss Sandra is felling right now no words can explain it, his big beautiful smile will live on in our lives forever.

“Ride in peace Dave you’re forever in our minds Leslie and I can’t believe this could happen to such a great man.”

More tributes were flowing for Mr Phillips on social media, as friends and the local community shared in the family’s heartbreak.

“Rest in peace mate … you will be missed so much. Loved by so many people," Neil Freeman said.

“You will be missed by many … sleep easy mate. Love and hugs to your wife, kids and grandies that you were so proud of,” Sandy Manser commented.

“Ride free big fella … the rides won’t be the same without you,” Jacinda Pollock said.

“Thinking of all the family … rest in peace mate. Can’t believe it was just last night we were chatting over a beer,” Andrew Gill said.

“The world won’t be the same without him … heavy heart today,” Cassie Freeman said.

The four occupants in the other vehicle, some who were understood to be children, were not physically injured.

The Forensic Crash Unit is still investigating the circumstances of the crash and anyone with information or dashcam footage in the area at the time is urged to contact police.
