Goodna house fire investigations ongoing, squatter reported safe after the blaze

Squatters are reported to have been living at a Goodna home engulfed by flames yesterday, with locals saying it was the second time the house had been ablaze.

Yesterday, four fire crews arrived at the Mill St home to find it fully engulfed.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze within minutes and managed to prevent the flames spreading to the surrounding houses, but most of the house was destroyed. No one was injured however.

Today, fire investigators were seen combing through the wreckage, close to the corner of Bertha Street and across the road from dance rehearsal space Mill Street Studios.

This morning investigators removed what appeared to be an outdoor gas heater from the structure, and photographed it outside.

Police interviewed witnesses on the scene and said they were still trying to identify the cause of the blaze.

A number of neighbours reported there had been squatters living in the house in recent years, and that they believed the owners lived overseas.

Property details reveal the house was repeatedly listed for sale throughout the 2010, but was last sold in 2003.

An acquaintance of a man who had allegedly been squatting at the house said he believed the house had been without power since the 2011 floods.

He and several other locals said the house had suffered previous fire damage some years ago.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman confirmed no one was inside at the time of the fire or required treatment.
