TOOWOOMBA has come alive with colour this week as the city on the Range celebrates its annual Carnival of Flowers.

The festival attracts tourists from Ipswich, the Lockyer Valley and across the state who head up the Range for the spectacle.

Dozens of homes and parks with meticulously manicured gardens will be blooming during the final days of the festival.

The Lockyer Valley Regional Council's entry was named the "Best Visiting Float" among the 114 floats that moved through the centre of Toowoomba in Saturday's grand parade. Lockyer mayor Steve Jones said the council was pleased to participate in the world-class event.

"Everyone commented on the massive increase in crowds compared to previous years, so it was great to have council's float receive such a positive response," Cr Jones said. "Congratulations must go to everyone involved in putting together such a huge effort to ensure our float was award-worthy."

While the grand parade has already run, the carnival will continue until Sunday.

Toowoomba's gardens from The Chronicle Garden Competition are open to visitors throughout the week, and entertainment continues throughout the city's streets and parks.

Sunday will bring the carnival to an end with a trip back to the '80s along Margaret St.

The week's final event has music, fashion and dancing straight out of the '80s.
