A Caboolture teen accused of taking part in the brutal alleged murder of a Laidley man, who house was also burned to the ground, had his matter adjourned this afternoon (June 23).
Gabriel Angelo Humberto Jones, 19, was due for mention in Ipswich Magistrates Court today after being charged with the murder of Laidley’s Jamie Barlow.
Jones was arrested on Tuesday night and charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and arson.
But the matter was adjourned to July 20 in the Ipswich court, for committal mention, so that it could be dealt with at the same time as his alleged co-offenders.
He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody.
Earlier today, a 16-year-old boy from Leichhardt appeared in Ipswich Children’s Court after being arrested overnight.
He was charged with one count each of murder, attempted murder and arson following the death of Mr Barlow on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, three others charged over the alleged murder were listed for mention in Ipswich Magistrates Court yesterday (June 22).
Laidley residents Charlotte Laura Barratt, 19, and Talia Healey, 19, and College View resident Braiden Taylor Leslie Harris, 24 were also charged with murder, attempted murder and arson allegedly in connection with Mr Barlow’s death and the attempted murder of Stacey Renee Vale.
The three were in custody and did not appear in court.
All three were represented by duty lawyer Ashley Ulyatt, who asked for an adjournment so that they can make applications for legal aid.
Their matters were adjourned for committal-mention in Ipswich courthouse on July 20.
The trio were remanded in custody and were expected to make applications for legal aid later this week.
The charges come after emergency services were called to the Patrick Street address at 9.48pm on Monday (June 20) where they found Mr Barlow, 48, at the rear of the property nursing “horrific injuries”.
They rendered first aid but Mr Barlow died about 15 minutes after they arrived.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews from Laidley, Gatton, Forest Hill and Ripley extinguished the blaze, but not before it gutted the home and killed several snakes Mr Barlow kept as pets.
They said burn marks could be seen at the rear of the property and on part of the roof.
“Police were first in attendance and were confronted by a male person at the rear stairs suffering quite serious injuries,” Acting Detective Superintendent, Regional Crime Coordinator for the Southern Region Garry Watts, said.
“The ambulance attended a short time later and with police conducted first aid.”
It is understood Mr Barlow suffered at least six stab wounds to his chest and torso.
Two 19-year-old women from Laidley and one 24-year-old College View man were also arrested.
Acting Detective Superintendent and Regional Crime Coordinator for the Southern Region Garry Watts said at the time the arrests were the result of police working around the clock.
“It was a hard investigation in so much as we had detectives who since Monday evening worked all the way through and fortunately for us we were able to make a number of arrests,” A/Supt Watts said.
