Eastern Heights bakery robbery: Matthew James Paton, Tyreece Patrick Paton charged with attempted murder

Two men have appeared in court for the first time since being arrested by Ipswich detectives over the allegedly ‘extremely violent’ armed robbery of a bakery, in which a 40-year-old woman was shot in the back.

TWO men accused of two counts of attempted murder have had the charges heard in an Ipswich court for the first time.

Police will allege the men were part of a trio who entered the Bun Me Bakery at Eastern Heights on Sunday afternoon, with one of the accused shooting a woman in the back before attempting to shoot another attendant.

It will be alleged the gun failed to fire on the second occasion. The trio allegedly left with a sum of cash.

A 40-year-old woman was treated for gunshot injuries which police said were non-life threatening.

The matters of Matthew James Paton, 37, from Leichhardt, and Tyreece Patrick Paton, 20, from Kingston, received brief separate mentions before Ipswich Magistrates Court this week.

Tyreece Paton appeared via video-link from the police watch-house on Thursday and did not make an application for bail.

Matthew Paton’s charges were mentioned at Ipswich on Wednesday. He did not apply for bail.

Both men are charged with two counts of attempted murder at Eastern Heights on Sunday September 5; two counts of robbery with violence/in company at the Bun Me Bakery on Grange Rd; entering premises with intent; unlawful possession of weapons; and not having authority to possess explosives (ammunition).

A third man, Kyle Stuart, aged 21, from Logan Central, is charged with the same offences.

His matters were heard at Beenleigh Magistrates Court this week and have been adjourned to Ipswich Magistrates Court for September 22
