UPDATE 10AM: Police are astounded at news that a man involved in a high-speed crash with a truck yesterday will likely live to tell the tale.

The man, aged in his 30s, had to be pulled from the burning wreck of a car after it collided head-on with a truck at Carole Park about 3pm on Wednesday.

He sustained serious internal injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Police say the man is likely to face serious charges after he is released from hospital.

It is alleged that he was initially a passenger in the vehicle shortly before the crash, and had held a knife to the throat of the woman who was driving, forcing her to exit the vehicle.

After a brief altercation, the man allegedly got into the driver's seat and sped off, overtaking another vehicle at an intersection before slamming into the truck at high speed.

Police estimate that the man may have been travelling in excess of 100kmh at the time.

Investigators have obtained dashcam footage from both the truck and another car that was near the scene of the crash.

Investigations are continuing.

WEDNESDAY 6PM: Police are investigating the circumstances which led to a serious crash at Carole Park on Wednesday afternoon.

A witness told police that a man involved in a head on collision with a truck had made her exit the vehicle shortly before jumping into the driver's seat and speeding away on the wrong side of the road.

A man aged in his 30s is fighting for life after the vehicle slammed head-on into a truck on Cobalt St about 3pm.

He was taken to the PA Hospital with back, chest and abdominal injuries.

WEDNESDAY 4PM: A man aged in his 30s has sustained serious back, chest and abdominal injuries in a crash at Carole Park.

A car and truck collided on Cobalt St about 3pm.

Police believe the injured man was driving erratically and had crossed onto the incorrect side of the road shortly before the collision.

The man has been taken to the PA Hospital in a serious condition.

Ipswich Detectives and the Forensic Crash Unit are investigating.

Cobalt Street is closed between Mica Street and Johnson Road, with traffic being diverted around the crash scene.

WEDNESDAY: Paramedics are assessing a person who is feared to have sustained serious injuries in a collision between a car and truck.

Police say the accident was reported at Cobalt St, Carole Park about 3pm.

The car has sustained serious damage and a QAS spokesman says a patient was found lying on the ground.

Motorists are warned to avoid the area if possible.
