A senior constable from Queensland Police’s Southern District has fronted the Ipswich Magistrates Court on charges of assault.
David James Ray, 48, appeared in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on one count of assault occasioning bodily harm and two counts of common assault, alleged to have occurred on January 1, 2024 at an address in Leichhardt.
No information in relation to the alleged assault was given in court.
Mr Ray was granted bail on his own undertaking.
A police media release issued on May 20 stated that the senior constable, who had served with the dog squad, had received a notice to appear and had been suspended from the Queensland Police Service.
Police Prosecutor Snr-Sgt Marre asked the court to apply conditions to the bail so that Mr Ray had no contact with the complainant and also a witness to the alleged assault.
Mr Ray’s defence lawyer Craig Pratt argued that given his client’s occupation, bail conditions were not necessary.
“Given my client’s occupation, I think he is well aware of what he can and cannot do while on bail,” Mr Pratt said.
The bail conditions were not opposed by Mr Ray.
Mr Ray will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on July 2 for a brief of evidence and a summary election on July 15.
