Energex has confirmed a CBD wide power outage after a pillar box catches alight

Hundreds of properties have been hit with an unexpected power outage as a power box on a busy street goes up in flames.

An Energex spokesman confirmed that 500 properties had been affected by the outage, caused by a fire on a pillar box at 198 Brisbane Street.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Energex crews are on scene, and residents should expect power to return soon.
