Ipswich is about to welcome its first epic play centre for children of all ages featuring a mega-coaster, snow play and a night market.
A development application (DA) submitted by SKF Developments proposed an Area 51 Play Centre and night markets, similar to that in Logan, at 101 Hume Drive in Bundamba.
They said there was a great need for entertainment activities for children because of Ipswich’s massive population increase in recent years.
The play centre was described as a “unique value offering for the six to 16-year-old market segment” but would include a night market food court, sport and education centres.
It would also have “bouldering’’ and climbing walls, a trampoline park, high ropes course, multistorey playground, mega-slides and multipurpose sports courts.
A Snow World, described as a Winter Wonderland experience simulating a real-life snow play experience, was proposed as well.
The project would be designed as a one-stop shop for families with on-site cooking facilities for cooking classes, a live-show stage, karaoke rooms, party facilities and an arcade.
The night market would be stand-alone activity and host multiple vendors, live entertainment and music.
Proposed opening hours for the indoor play centre were 9am-9pm, while the markets would be held on weekends.
The Area 51 Play Centre and night markets in Logan, built on a former Bunnings Warehouse site, have become hugely popular.
Sessions at that centre ran every two hours and cost between $24 and $30 for a school-aged child.
Ipswich City Council is assessing the new proposal.
