A 24-year-old woman who fronted court for repeat driving offences has been told she is on a “one way road to incarceration” if she doesn’t get her act together.

Colette Lee Wilson pleaded guilty in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Friday to two charges of driving while disqualified by a court order.

Wilson’s car was impounded in August after she was caught driving illegally for the second time in 11 days.

On August 8, police stopped Wilson in Brassall and found she was driving while disqualified and while on a suspended sentence for previous offending.

Wilson, who was also still a P-plater, was stopped again on August 19.

The court heard Wilson started driving again after her grandmother, who had been driving her during the disqualification, had passed away.

Wilson was sentenced in 2019 for three offences of driving while disqualified and was further disqualified for two years on two of the charges. She was fined $1500 for each offence.

On the third occasion she was disqualified and given a four month prison sentence, wholly suspended for three years.

Police prosecutor Nicholas Turnbull said Wilson was a “recidivist bad driver” who needed to learn she “simply cannot get behind the wheel”.

“(Having a) licence is a privilege, not a right,” Sgt Turnbull said.

“(Wilson) needs to stay off the road and out of jail to get her life on track.”

Sgt Turnbull said Wilson was “on a one way road to incarceration” if she did not change her behaviour.

Wilson appeared disinterested during the proceedings, checking her phone at one point as the magistrate spoke.

She was given a head sentence of nine months’ jail. Her four-month suspended sentence was activated, to be served concurrently.

She received immediate parole release and was disqualified from driving for two years on top of her remaining disqualification period of one year.

At the end of her sentencing, Wilson turned and poked her tongue out at a woman supporting her in court, which was not seen by the magistrate.
