The man who was fatally shot at the scene of a horrific street brawl at North Booval on Tuesday night has been revealed as 31-year-old Logan man Carlo Piero Stewart.

Mr Stewart died after being shot twice on Baden Jones Way when a brawl broke out between two groups of people about 5pm.

Police say nine people were involved in the disturbance, with several of them injured including one with serious head injuries after being attacked with a baseball bat.

Two men and a 16-year-old boy have been charged with one count of murder and two counts of grievous bodily harm.

Ipswich detectives say a dispute over property is thought to have triggered the deadly confrontation.

As news of the tragedy filtered through the community on Wednesday, a loved one shared a photo of Mr Stewart online saying they felt as though their “heart had been ripped out”.

“Words cannot describe how I am feeling right now, it‘s like somebody’s ripped out my heart and jumped on it,” he wrote.

“You‘ll forever be in my heart, please know I love you so much and I wish I had of got to say it to you one more time. Rest in peace brother.”

Only months ago, Mr Stewart had vowed to turn his life around.

“I‘ve done alot (sic) of bad in my past,” he wrote in April.

“But I have definitely left that behind me. And people that know me know I have a huge heart of gold and I will do or help anyone in need.”

He said he has “always believed in karma and doing good …”

Speaking about the incident on Wednesday, Ipswich Detective Acting Inspector Heath McQueen said police believed it was a targeted attack and the community had no reason to feel scared.

“I’d like to reassure the community that this is a targeted attack and these two groups of persons are known to each other and the police,” he said.

“The community does not need to be concerned for their ongoing safety.”

Insp McQueen confirmed the dispute related to property and “developed very quickly from discussion to assault.”

Police established a crime scene Tuesday night and forensic examination has continued into Wednesday.

“A number of people are assisting us with our inquiries who are involved in the incident however there are a number of people who have been uncooperative as well,” Insp McQueen said.

Police said they were still investigating what type of firearm was used.

As yet, no charges have been laid.
