Jockey Michael Cahill was the pick for the regional trainers at Bundamba today, claiming a winning double.
The grandstand cheers were heard from afar for Ipswich trainer Yvonne Day who won the #thisisaconversationstarter Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate 1200m with Rose By Design.
After running strongly in a forward position at her last start when second at Beaudesert, senior jockey Cahill was able to guide the mare to find a better speed to hold off the field this week.
Trainer Bradley Smith followed up with his sprinter Hidden Spring to win the Base Metal Fabrication Class 1 Handicap 800m.
The gelding returned to the track after a spell fresh to find the front before turning for home.
Gold Coast runner Gogol was too good for the Class 5 1200m field claiming his third win in a row for trainer Les Kelly.
The favourite was well backed and didn’t disappoint with a three-quarter of a length win ahead of the Lee Freedman-trained Leadership Spill.
Cherry Soda held off the hot favourite No Better Affaire in the Ratings Band 0-60 1100m for trainer Barry Baldwin.
The mare improved on her last start after resuming from a spell to return to the winner’s box at her seventh start.
Another runner returning from spell was Jaydee Indy who won at odds of $23 for trainer Kerry Young and ridden by Ryan Wiggins.
It took his earnings to over $80,000 for seven career wins from 31 starts.
Raising awareness for mental health
The Ipswich Turf Club launched its Mental Health Awareness Month this week supporting the This Is A Conversation Starter (TIACS) Foundation.
Throughout October, the ITC team is hoping to raise awareness and funds to assist the TIACS who connect individuals, particularly blue-collar workers with free qualified counselling services.
The ITC team will be donning the brightly coloured This Is A Conversation Starter shirts developed by TIACS parent company TradeMutt to help generate some chatter.
The campaign will conclude with the This Is A Conversation Starter Race Day on Wednesday, October 27.
There are some fantastic raffle prizes coming together including a firepit donated by Base Metal Fabrication.
Tickets to the event are $70 per person with $10 going directly to TIACS Foundation.

Melbourne Cup at Ipswich
There may not be racing on Melbourne Cup day but the ITC is the ideal place to catch all the action.
There are two options to take in all the action on the screens.
The Grange Lounge offers a three-course package, fashions on the field and hosted by River 94.9s Greg ‘Hinksy’ Hinks.
Or if you’re after something a little more less formal, the Eye Liner Lounge will offer a canapes and drinks package while also enjoying all the action on the screens.
