AN Ipswich burger joint is giving away free burgers this weekend but only for those who have had their Covid-19 jab.

Burger Urge in Redbank Plains is one of 27 stores across the country giving away freebies as part of a cheeky jab at the federal government’s sluggish vaccine rollout.

There are 1000 to be claimed in total, or about 37 for each store.

Burger Urge has 17 stores across Australia, including one in Ipswich.

The gourmet burger chain, which was started in Brisbane in 2007, says it is a way of giving Prime Minister Scott Morrison ‘a hand’ with the heavily criticised rollout.

“This may be hard to believe, but some people are saying that the vaccine rollout in this country has been an absolute balls-up,” CEO Shawn Kerr said.

“Yes, it’s a shocking hot take, and we only see one path forward and that’s with delicious burgers.

“If you’ve somehow managed to negotiate the half-baked minefield that is Australia’s vaccination program, we’re rewarding your effort with a free burg.

“By our reckoning if you’ve actually managed to get a jab, you’re either a master strategist or you can remember the first season of Hey, Hey It’s Saturday.

“Either way, we tip our hat to you.

“Just come into the Redbank Plains restaurant, show your vaccination card and say the secret code ‘ScoMo, ya dun goofed’ to your friendly server.

“Winking knowingly while you say the code is optional and we’ll hook you up with a free Boston Cheeseburger.

“It’s first in, best dressed though, so you’ll need to be quick.”

A Boston Cheeseburger is made up of a beef patty, cheese, pickles, tomato, lettuce, special sauce and aioli.

A new Covid-19 vaccination hub will open in Ipswich next week.

The vaccination centre will open in the former Harvey Norman showroom in the CBD on Tuesday.

To date, 20,964 vaccine doses have been administered by West Moreton Health with all but about 1000 of those being delivered at the Ipswich Hospital.

Just over 400 jabs were given at the hospital on Friday.
