Jamie Lee Hanrahan and Mathew Johnatnon Hanrahan were both sentenced to terms of imprisonment after pleading guilty to entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence at the Ipswich Magistrates Court.

The court heard the brothers had been in a car on the way to the tip when they spotted the victim’s car.

The victim, a 57-year-old man known to one of the brothers, had borrowed a heavy jack from Mathew Hanrahan.

Mathew quickly did a U-turn and followed the man home.

Mr M. Hanrahan’s defence lawyer said he had no intention of violently confronting the man although merely seized the opportunity to retrieve his property as he had his brother and mate to help lift to heavy item.

Although the situation went south quickly when the men arrived at the victims door.

An argument ensued and after the victim told the group to ‘f-ck off’ and opened his scene door, Jamie Hanrahan grabbed him by the throat and pushed him onto a table.

The court heard the men punched the men until he fell to the ground.

It was there he was kicked repeatedly until his panic-stricken 80-year-old mother began screaming and was forced to intervene.

“We’ll be back,” heard the victim as the men left.

Magistrate Robert Walker said the actions of the brothers were cowardly and grotesque.

The co-accused Caboolture brothers’ defence lawyers told the court the pair had a difficult upbringing as their mother suffered a serious injury after being involved in a car crash.

Magistrate Walker commended the brothers for their devotion to caring for their mother’s health and noted they had strong moral character despite committing a serious crime.

The pair were sentenced a 12 months jail sentence and their bail was set to March 2, 2021.

The pair’s loved ones broke down in tears in court as the verdict was read on Tuesday, November 2021.

Moody civil and pipe tradie Mathew left behind his 16-year-old daughter and partner.

Tradesman and family man Jamie left behind his two girls aged 12 and 14, and his partner’s children who his is also close with.
