Today marks the 11-year anniversary of the day the Ipswich CBD and about 3000 homes were inundated by flood waters after the Bremer River reached a height of almost 20 metres.
After almost two months of intense rain across parts of the state, the devastating and deadly Queensland floods worsened in early January, 2011.
On January 11, the Brisbane River broke its banks leading to a mass evacuation of the city and in just two days 20,000 homes were inundated.
The next day, Ipswich was in trouble as the Bremer River reached a height of 19.4m, plunging one-third of the city underwater as 1100 people took shelter at evacuation centres
The Ipswich CBD and 3000 homes were inundated but the areas of Goodna and Gailes took the brunt of it.
Bridges were washed away and bull sharks were even spotted swimming through the centre of Goodna.
Tragically, a four-year-old boy, Jesse Wickman, was swept away by floodwaters at Minden, just outside of Ipswich.
A man in his 50s also died after driving into flood waters at Wulkuraka.
The widespread flooding would devastate several Queensland regions and 33 lives were lost.
A further three people were reported missing, presumed dead.
