Income tax cuts: Pauline Hanson robocalls to ‘keep these bastards honest’

LESS than two hours after the personal income tax cuts passed the Senate, One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson unleashed a robocall campaign slamming ‘Labor’s lies’.

Labor takes aim at Hanson in robocall campaign

LESS than two hours after the personal income tax cuts passed the Senate, One Nation leader Senator Pauline Hanson has unleashed a robocall campaign defending her support for the policy and saying “don’t accept Labor’s lies”.

It follows a Labor robocall campaign in Longman, north of Brisbane, where a by-election will take place on July 28, taking aim at Senator Hanson’s support for the Government’s full tax plan.

“Right now in Canberra, Pauline Hanson stands to vote with Malcolm Turnbull to give another tax cut to the top end of town, even giving herself a massive tax cut,” the Labor robocall released Wednesday night said.

“It’s not too late for us to stop her.”

It then goes on to direct people to call Senator Hanson’s office by pressing one on their phone.

Senator Hanson’s return robocall said her vote only supported personal income tax cuts, not company tax cuts for which she withdrew support for earlier this year.

“Every hard working Australian deserves to pay less tax,” she said.

“Times are tough and I hope you understand why I voted to support workers receiving tax cuts.

“Let’s be clear, this is a tax cut for workers, not companies.

“Don’t accept Labor’s lies.

“Thanks Australia and let’s keep these bastards honest.”

Tax relief is on the way

As well as a tax offset of up to $530 for low and middle income from next year, changes to the tax brackets will see people earning over $200,000 pay $7000 less tax from 2024.

It means Federal politicians will receive the tax cut from that date.

Senator Hanson said her term ended in 2022 and she did not know if she would still be in Parliament by the time the final phase of the tax cuts begin.

“I might be a self-funded retiree when they kick in,” she said.

Opposition treasury spokesman Chris Bowen said Senator Hanson, who yesterday said she would not benefit from the tax cuts, did not understand the policy.

“She doesn’t understand what she voted for ... high income earners get this tax cut,” he said.

Meanwhile, Friday, June 22 is the cut off for electoral enrolment for the Longman by-election.

Residents in parts of the Moreton Bay, Somerset and Sunshine Coast Regional Council have until Friday at 8.30pm to update their enrolment details with the Australian Electoral Commission at www.aec.gov.au.
