The global lifestyle superstore is releasing its first meat-free meatballs next month, creating a more sustainable plant-based alternative.
The new balls supposedly have the same look and taste of the original, but are made from a mix of yellow pea protein, oats, potato, onion and apple.
“We’re excited to be able to soon start offering a more sustainable option of our original
meatball without compromising on the classic Ikea meatball experience,” Ikea spokeswoman Bijanka Zubonja said.
The “plant balls” will be available in stores across Australia from October 6, served with mashed potatoes, lingonberries and cream, or as a frozen take-home pack.
However, Ikea is giving 350 Australians the chance to be the first to try them by buying tickets to a special “Sustainable Dining” dinner experience, which will showcase an entire range of sustainable food options at the store.
Ticket are $25 per person but you have to be an Ikea Family Member to buy them.
