Where to find Brisbane’s best milkshakes

A Brisbane cafe is serving up the innovative, elaborate and decadent milkshakes you need to try. Find out where.

How to make a boozy milkshake

It’s the type of drink that decimates all willpower and almost requires physical restraint to avoid downing the entire thing in one prolonged gulp.

I’m talking about the Snickers Heavenly Shake at Nundah‘s Fuel & Co in Brisbane’s north.

Blending the famous chocolate bar with milk, biscuits and ice cream, then pouring the mixture into a cup lined with chocolate sauce before a crowning of whipped cream, it’s the very best of the peanut, nougat and cocoa snack only in liquid form.

And it alone is worth the visit to this calming suburban cafe.

Attached to a little cottage, the leafy, fairy light-lit, covered courtyard seats the bulk of guests, providing a peaceful and pleasant place for a bite to eat.

A takeaway window is packed with house-made sweet treats, including brownies, cookies and a very good raspberry, white chocolate and coconut muffin, as well as a few savoury options like pies and sandwiches, but it’s the main menu that deserves diners’ attention.

There’s all the favourites, such as açai bowls, avo on toast, hot cakes and eggs bene that run all day, while at lunch time fish tacos, a burger, chicken karaage and an ever-changing hot pot also come into play.

Their menu claims they are famous for their corn fritters, and while certainly tasty, they are a little pricey at $21, requiring the addition of haloumi ($3) and bacon ($5) to make a meal big enough for my friend.

Much better value for money is the meatballs and baked eggs ($22). Arriving in a piping hot pan, the herby balls float like blow-up toys is a pool of rich tomato sauce alongside runny yolked eggs and discs of melted cheese. While two slices of sensational seeded bread slathered in butter are just right for dipping.

Just as big as the food offering is the drinks list, running from well made coffee and on trend flavoured lattes to teas, frappes, smoothies and more.

Those heavenly shakes also come in versions involving Maltesers, Mint Slice, cookies and cream, and honeycomb.

But really, after one sip of the Snickers incarnation, you won’t want for anything else.
