The Beenleigh and Gold Coast train lines have been suspended, causing up to 60-minute delays and forcing peak-hour commuters on to buses.
TransLink said the train lines were suspended between Kuraby and Kingston stations due to an incident requiring emergency services.
At 8pm, TransLink said wait times on the Beanleigh and Gold Coast lines had reduced to 30 minutes.
A series of trains on the Springfield Central and Cleveland lines were also cancelled after 8pm due to a police incident.
It is not clear if it was the same incident that shut the Gold Coast to Beenleigh lines.

The train delays were not the only headache for afternoon and evening commuters.
Drivers heading north on the Bruce Hwy were at a standstill after a truck rolled about 1pm into a ditch between the Pumicestone Road and Steve Irwin Way exits.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said one lane of the highway was closed while authorities worked to remove the wreckage but it has since reopened.
