GYMPIE coffee drinkers have shown their hearts are bigger than their wallets at Farmer & Sun Marketplace Cafe where a string of 'suspended coffees' awaits those in need.

Owner Sharla Watson said customers had paid for more than 20 coffees to be used as a free coffee by those in need of a lift. The Southside cafe began the system last month after a customer suggested the idea, which is now popular in many cities.

"I didn't think we would get this sort of response," the pleased owner said.

With many free coffees waiting to be used she wants people to know the coffee can be used by anyone, whether they have just fallen a bit short that week or even left their purse at home.

It's all about making people feel good, she said.
