The Pre-Muster Party is back, after a last minute decision to put the man who got everybody talking about Mary Street for all the right reasons, in charge of the Gympie CBD Pre Muster Party 2022.
Outspoken businessman and former Chamber of Commerce president Tony Goodman is stepping up to the plate to make sure those who cannot make it out to Amamoor State Forest this year get a good dose of Muster fun and festivity in the heart of the city on Wednesday, August 24, the day before the Muster officially kicks off.
It will, of course, also be an opportunity for the community to show its support of our embattled CBD, which is still reopening after the devastating February floods.
Like the Muster itself, the Pre Muster Party has not been held since 2019 due to Covid-19, and with the Winter Wheels on Mary falling victim to the weather, the street is well overdue for a party.
Local musicians, performers and other entertainers are scheduled to appear throughout the length of Mary Street next Wednesday, and a centre stage will be set up for the day’s events.
Bales of hay will be distributed to shop owners to decorate and “get into the feel” of the Muster, Mr Goodman said.
More than 200 decorated hay bales will lie along the tree boulevard, along with heritage and car rides operating up Mary Street.
Mr Goodman, Mayor Glen Hartwig, and Deputy Mayor Hilary Smerdon will be on a truck delivering the hay bales early that morning.
The event, run by Gympie Regional Council, will be an opportunity to invite people into the local shops to support the businesses affected by flooding and Covid-19, Mr Goodman said.
The festivities will take place from 10am to 2pm and the full length of Mary Street will be celebrating.
All cafes will be open for party goers to head down and have a meal.
The event will be an opportunity to enjoy a family atmosphere and support the traders who have been doing it tough, Mr Goodman said.
With only a few days remaining until the Gympie Music Muster, here’s everything you need to know.
