HOCKEY: The Cooloola Heat’s pre-season training has stepped up a level this year with the hockey side hitting the sand dunes at Rainbow for a fitness camp.

Heat coach Ben Fitzpatrick said he was happy with the attendance at the two-day camp and said the Heat is looking to be one of the fittest teams in the 2010 competition.

“We had 15 turn up for the camp and have been around 18 players turn up during the week for training,” Fitzpatrick said.

“And we are still hoping to have a couple of others players turn up,” he said.

Fitzpatrick said the Heat had a three hour session on the beach Saturday afternoon before getting together for a barbecue that night.

Sunday morning, the squad had a gruelling run from the bottom of Rainbow up the hill to the Carlo Sand Blow where they did hill sprints up the sand dunes before heading back to the beach.

"I was really happy with the effort the boys put in,” Fitzpatrick said.
