Sport clubs pay tribute to 14yo Gympie Devils player Levi Hanna

The mother of Levi Hanna has thanked the community for the touching send-off given to her ‘precious boy’ as Gympie and Sunshine Coast sport clubs light up to farewell the beloved teen whose shock death has touched the entire community.

Rugby league clubs from Gympie, across the Sunshine Coast and down to Caboolture lit up their ovals in honour of Levi Hanna as his family made the heartbreaking decision to shut off his life support at 7.14pm on Saturday.

Levi’s mother Lilly Zrehen thanked everyone for their prayers and kind tributes to Levi on Wednesday morning and announced all of the GoFundMe donations would go towards Levi’s funeral, with remaining funds to go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities for their “amazing” support.

“My boy lit up the sky on Saturday night and I believe he has touched and helped so many in his life and will continue to do so,” she said.

“I can still feel him with me.”

Gympie Junior Rugby League held a gathering at their clubhouse on Saturday to honour Levi, who played for the Devils from the age of seven.

The club invited the community in a Facebook to “say farewell to our little legend Levi Hanna”.

“It was amazing to see the lights come on for Levi and stay on for the whole night,” the club wrote.

“Levi was so loved, his parents had given him a wonderful life jammed pack full of adventure and such a wonderful family and friends full of love.”

Sunshine Coast rugby league clubs posted heartfelt tributes on social media, declaring their lights at their ovals and clubhouses would be lit for Levi.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that Sunshine Coast Junior Rugby League offers their deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Gympie Devils Junior Rugby League player Levi Hanna,” Rugby League Sunshine Coast posted.

“Tonight, we shine our lights in prayer, hope, love and support for a young man, Levi. To his family, friends, Gympie Rugby League and all who loved him,” Caloundra Sharks Junior Rugby League posted.

“From Devils to Devils, along with other Sunshine Coast clubs, we have turned on our lights to show our support to Levi‘s family, friends and the entire Rugby League community, who are grieving such a very sad loss tonight,” Palmwoods Devils Junior Rugby League Club said in a post.

“We have lit up our fields tonight with lights for Levi at 7.14pm and they’ll be running all night. So sorry for this tragic turn of events Hanna family,” Caboolture Snakes Junior Rugby League said in a post.

Rugby league clubs from Noosa, Nambour, Kawana, Maroochydore, Stanley River, Pomona Cooran and the University of The Sunshine Coast also offered their condolences and support to Levi’s family and friends and the Gympie Devils community.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we learn of your devastating loss of young Levi,” Nambour Rugby League Club said in a comment.

“Deepest condolences from the Junior Crushers family to Levi‘s family and friends and the Gympie Devils community.

“Thinking of you all and sending our deepest condolences to Levi’s family,” Kawana Junior Rugby League Club commented.

“Our thoughts are with Levi, his family, friends and all the Gympie Devils at this sad time, Stanley River Rugby League Football Club said.

“So sorry for your loss. Our deepest condolences to Levi’s family and his extended Devils family,” University of The Sunshine Coast Rugby League said.
