Tributes have poured in for a Kybong motorcyclist who died after a crash on the Bruce Highway north of Gympie. Loved ones rallied around the ‘beautiful man’ as he fought injuries for more than a week.

A Kybong man critically injured in a motorcycle crash has died 10 days after the Bruce Highway horror near Gympie on August 20, 2022.

Gus Sullivan’s death was revealed Tuesday morning, with one friend saying the 61-year-old “tried so hard but his injuries were just too bad.”

Gus Sullivan you will be dearly missed by us all, friend Sandie Hampton said in a Facebook post.

An outpouring of emotion and tributes followed in the wake of Ms Hampton’s post.

“R. I. P Gus, you will be missed by lots,” Jaden Smith said.

“R. I. P old mate, you will be missed riding with angels now,” Joey Bonnici said.

Mr Sullivan was left in a critical condition after his bike crashed and hit a guard rail near the corner of Robert Rd on the Bruce Hwy at Chatsworth about 9.50am on August 20.

He suffered serious head and facial injuries.

The crash was followed on the weekend by the death of a 72-year-old man at Kybong.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said Mr Sullivan was taken to the Gympie Hospital shortly after the crash, before being flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

He reportedly remained in a critical condition and an induced coma on August 22.

Police said in a statement on August 22 they were investigating the circumstances of the crash, and anyone with relevant dashcam footage was urged to come forward immediately.

Ms Hampton said in a Facebook post shared on August 20, the same day as the accident, she was “sending positive healing thoughts” to Mr Sullivan. “You can do it mate … we love you heaps mate,” she said.

Ms Hampton’s post generated an outpouring of supportive comments from friends and family.

Yvette McGinn said Mr Sullivan was “such a beautiful man”.

Kerri Lee said she was sending him “love and light”.

“You’re an absolute legend,” Rene Lees said.

“Sending lots of love and positive vibes,” Sar Bott-Sherman said.

Katrina McCreery said her thoughts were with Mr Sullivan and his family and friends.

“Hope he pulls through, sending you (Sandie) a hug,” Grace McGrail said.

Sharon Edwards-Selby said Mr Sullivan had a strong support team behind him.

“Fight this mate … Sending love and prayers. You can do it,” she said.

The Gympie Times understands Mr Sullivan was a former supporting member of the Sunshine Coast and Cooloola Cove branch of the Military Brothers’ Motorcycle Club.

The Southbound lane of the Bruce Hwy at Chatsworth was closed for at several hours following the crash.
