Fatal car crash on Kandanga Imbil Road in Mary Valley

A 56-year-old Brooloo woman has died and a 17-year-old injured after a horrific head-on collision at Imbil. A Toowoomba region woman was also taken to a Sunshine Coast hospital.

A 56-year-old Brooloo woman has died and a 17-year-old injured after a horrific head-on collision at Imbil on Wednesday.

Police said on Thursday initial investigations indicated a Toyota Landcruiser was travelling north on Kandanga Imbil Road just after 4pm when it collided with a Toyota Corolla travelling in the opposite direction, approximately 200m north of the Melawondi Road turn-off.

The 56-year-old driver died at the scene.

The 17-year-old male passenger was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

The teenager suffered from a severe head injury and an upper chest injury.

A 41-year-old Laidley Heights woman with moderate injuries in her ankle and right side of her chest was transported to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam vision is being urged to contact police.

A Queensland Ambulance spokesman reminded drivers to stay safe on the roads and stick to the speed limit.

“Any loss of life on our roads is a tragedy,” the QAS spokesman said.

All traffic was turned away from the scene for hours after the crash.

Rescuers worked hard to free the teenage boy who was trapped for some time inside the wreckage of the Corolla he had been travelling in.

The crash involved a white 4WD and the Corolla, and occurred on the crest of a hill.

Multiple emergency crews rushed to the scene south of Gympie.

The 17-year-old was treated at the scene by the RACQ LifeFLight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service flight paramedics.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
