More than 5300 new homes are on the horizon for Gympie with the LNP state government announcing a $42 million funding injection for the region.

The funding announced at the same time as the Gympie council was handing down its 2025 budget on Thursday, will primarily be spent on water infrastructure across the region.

More than $36 million of the funding will go on water infrastructure, covering almost 90 per cent of the council’s planned spend of $40.7 million on the first stage of its water resilience program.

Another $5.4 million will be spent on a $6.9 million urban investigation project to explore where future residential and industrial development should be built in the region.

The council has been exploring the possibility of building a new industrial hub at Curra, where the new Gympie Bypass ends.

Mayor Glen Hartwig said the funding “will allow us to deliver critical trunk infrastructure, unlocking 5,350 new homes in Gympie”.

“This support is vital to addressing housing challenges in our community while supporting local jobs and economic development,” Mr Hartwig said.

Primary Industries Minister and Gympie LNP MP Tony Perrett called the funding a “gamechanger”.

“Delivering critical trunk infrastructure like this means we’re not just planning for the future – we’re building it,” he said in the statement.

“It’s exactly the kind of targeted support our region needs.”
