Rainbow Beach celebrates Surf Life Saver volunteers

The Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Club held their annual awards night at their Rainbow Beach clubhouse on June 26, with Gympie MP Tony Perrett and Gympie regional councillor Dolly Jensen were the evenings special guests as they presented the volunteers with their awards.

The Rainbow Beach Surf Life Saving Club held its annual Surf Life Saving awards at the Rainbow Beach Surf Club on June 26, with hard working volunteers receiving awards for their dedication and efforts after another successful season of keeping Rainbow Beach swimmers safe.

Gympie MP Tony Perrett and Gympie regional councillor Dolly Jensen were special guests, presenting awards on the night, where Mrs Jensen expressed her gratitude for Surf Life Savers keeping the community safe.

“Volunteers are the backbone of our community, and that’s what makes our community,” she said.

Thirteen awards were presented in total on the night, with 17 life savers recognised for their efforts overall.

Mason Bignell received the Junior Achievement award, presented by Mrs Jensen, and was also awarded Outstanding First Year.

Justin Schooth accepted the Best Patrol Team award on behalf of patrol team 2.

Kieran Clancy was awarded Most Efficient Patrol Member and Most Unusual Experience.

Anton Klekar received the Champion Lifesaver award, presented by Mr Perrett.

Roscoe Wilsch was awarded Best Competent Driver or Crew Person and the Special Award shared with

Liam Pratt was awarded Best Junior Patrol Member, presented by Mrs Jensen.

Daniel Robertson was awarded Best Club Member.

Jack Dwine was awarded Best Junior Member.

Robert McCarthy was awarded Best Senior Member, presented by Mr Perrett.

Amanda Wroe was presented with the Encouragement Award.

Rainbow Beach Surf Lifesaving president Shane Handy said the club consisted of 80 active members, all aged between 13 and 71.

He also said the awards night was about recognising the efforts of the volunteers, who the organisation relied on to keep beachgoers safe.

“They basically run the beach in the weekends and public holidays and from the September public holidays to the May long weekend,” he said.
