Controversial plans to redevelop the former Rainbow Beach golf course are well underway.
A development application lodged by Dr Allan J Bond and & Associates Pty Ltd to redevelop the block of land formerly known as the Rainbow Shores Golf Course was first put to Gympie Regional Council in 2019, and was later approved in November 2021.
The 3.192ha (8 acre) Wyvern Rd property closed its gates in June 2014, and was leased by Rainbow Shores Resort until they handed the land back to the Department of Natural Resources on October 31, 2014.
The lot, situated on the corner of Rainbow Shores Drive and Wyvern Rd, was adjacent to the Rainbow Shores Resort.
Residents were in uproar over the golf course closing and have since been outspoken about the land being redeveloped; Gympie Regional Council received 43 objections to the project.
Developer Richard Bond, whose father is listed as one of the applicant’s directors, has previously told the media the 39-lot subdivision would mostly consist of duplexes.
A new road running through the subdivision and connecting from one end of Wyvern Rd to another will also be built.
The Gympie Times has reached out to Mr Bond for further comment.
Application documents state redeveloping the land will cost more than $1.18 million, not including the construction of the homes.
It has not been confirmed how much the project will cost overall.
An end date on when the project will be completed is yet to be established.
