A man in his 70s was flown to to the Sunshine Coast in a critical condition with a “significant” head injury after a rollover at Tuan, between Gympie and the Fraser Coast, on Thursday morning.
The patient was still in a critical condition at the hospital on Friday morning, a Sunshine Coast University Hospital spokesman said.
An RACQ LifeFlight spokesperson said the man’s ute had veered off Maryborough Cooloola Rd at Tuan Forest and rolled, trapping him inside.
Emergency services, including a rescue helicopter with critical care paramedics on board, were called to the scene at 10.40am.
Police closed the road to allow the rescue helicopter a place to land while firefighters managed to free the man from the wreck.
He was the only person in the car at the time.
The Lifeflight spokesperson said the man was treated for several injuries, including a critical head and chest injury.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said he was then flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
