Health authorities have urged more Gympie residents to come forward and register for a COVID-19 vaccine before the city’s temporary vaccination hub closes at the end of October.
The Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service this week announced it expects 20,000 more doses to be administered between the temporary hub at the Gympie Civic Centre and the Gympie Hospital before the former’s closure, but there remained “plenty of appointments available”.
The Queensland Government website shows 2,833 doses had been given out at the Civic Centre as of Wednesday (August 11), including 213 on that date, as well as 529 so far from the Gympie Hospital.
SCHHS nursing director Amy Holmes said those figures were a good start.
“We opened the service on the 27th of July, and so far we’ve completed nearly 3500 vaccinations to the Gympie local community in the region, which is just a great effort,” Ms Holmes said.
“For consumers who have trouble getting online or you don’t have access you can give us a call on 134 COVID. The number is 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so if you can’t get straight through feel free to call back later in the day.
“Our Gympie service is due to close at the end of October, so consumers have lots of time to register online if you haven’t already.
“When we complete the service the Gympie region will have completed an additional 20,000 doses through that service.”
