Two regional towns in the Wide Bay Burnett will receive 18 pre-built homes as part of the state government’s $3.23m funding for housing those in need.
Eleven, pre-built two-bedroom homes are expected to arrive in Gympie in early December, a Department of Housing spokesperson said.
They said connection to water, sewage and electricity were expected to be completed in February, 2024.
Seven similar homes arrived in Eidsvold late October, with sewerage, electricity, and fit out completed by the end of the year.
Residents are expected to move in shortly after the site works are completed.
In June 2023, Gympie region had 129 applicants on the housing register, while the North Burnett had 14.
“Anything from the state government addressing affordable housing is welcome,” Gympie’s Community Action Inc general manager Ruth Tidswell said.
While the 11 pre-built, 2-bedroom homes destined for Gympie are necessary and welcome, the nationwide housing crisis is pressing the region, particularly for affordable housing to address homelessness, she said.

The brand new pre-made homes are being built in Yatala on the Gold Coast by VOLO Modular.
This is the second instalment of prebuilt homes brought to Gympie by the state government after Gympie Recovery and Accommodation Park received eight tiny homes for use as emergency accommodation in August 2023.
Pre-built homes have been seen as an efficient way for housing stock to be built, taking away the uncertainty of weather conditions and the geographical distribution of building supplies.
“The homes are among more than 100 modular homes for social housing and government employee housing to be delivered across the state before the end of the year,” a department spokesperson said.
