A Sunshine Coast teenager has been slugged with a hefty fine by police after being caught speeding in a suburban Gympie street.

A 19-year-old Sunshine Coast driver has been fined almost $2000 and lost nearly all the points on his license after being caught driving at 100km/h in a suburban Gympie street.
Police said in a media release the Sippy Downs teenager was allegedly seen by police speeding along Groundwater Rd, in a 60km/h zone, at the Southside in a black Holden Commodore about 2.40pm on Friday, February 2.
Officers pulled the teen over, and discovered he was also driving a manual vehicle despite only being licensed for automatics.
He was handed two separate fines — one for speeding that cost him $1780 and eight demerit points, and one for failing to comply with a licence condition, which came which cost him a further $154 and another demerit point.
