Shyanne Maree Whatley in court for stalking, harassment, abuse

A 25-year-old Gympie woman has been granted bail on charges of stalking, intimidation, harassment and abuse of her male neighbour.

Shyanne Maree Whatley appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court via a video link on Monday charged with unlawful stalking, intimidation, harassment and abuse of her neighbour between April 1, and May 11, 2024.

A 25-year-old Gympie woman has been charged with stalking, intimidating, harassing and abusing her male neighbour.

Shyanne Maree Whatley appeared in Gympie Magistrates Court via a video link on Monday, July 15, charged with unlawful stalking, intimidation, harassment and abuse between April 1, and May 11, 2024.

She was also charged with failing to appear on July 8, and unlawful use of a motor vehicle on July 13, 2024.

Barrister Clem Van Der Weegen said his client suffered from a significant childhood trauma and mental health problems.

Police prosecutor Mel Campbell said it was not appropriate to grant Whatley bail as she would be going right next door to the person she was accused of stalking, and she had previous convictions of breaching bail.

“She has interfered with her neighbour and pleaded guilty and the situation has become something that cannot be denied,” Sgt Campbell said.

“The comments made included ‘you f-----g c---’, ‘f-----g s---’, ‘I hate you’, ‘you fat c---’ and the complainant was recording these comments, a legitimate recording while this was happening, the complainant is being terrorised by his next door neighbour,” she said.

Whatley was granted bail on the condition she report to Gympie police station every Wednesday and attend to her GP to obtain a mental health plan.

Magistrate Bevan Hughes adjourned the case to August 29.
