An early morning dispute between two households in a Gympie street got out of hand when an aspiring traffic controller damaged the property of her neighbour.
Sherrilyn Page pleaded guilty in Gympie Magistrates Court on Tuesday, September 27, to one count of wilful damage after she shattered the window of her neighbour’s Astra.
At about 5am on February 20, Page’s neighbour went outside to go to work and let his dogs out, police prosecutor Kennedy Grills told the court.
Page stormed out of her house and began yelling abuse at him, including tell him to “F--- off” and falsely calling him a “paedophile,” the court heard.
“Shut your junkie mouth,” the neighbour responded.
Page eventually threw a piece of wood at the neighbouring house, striking the patio, the court heard.
The neighbour’s then-partner walked out and threw back a plastic bottle.
Enraged, Page walked up to the neighbour’s 2004 Holden Astra and shattered their rear passenger window.
Glass was strewn everywhere.
Police were called and she was later given a notice to appear in court.
The two neighbours had an “extremely hostile” relationship for the past two years, lawyer Neesha Maidwell said.
The 45-year-old Gympie woman is a carer of two boys and, after taking some courses, will soon start a job as a traffic controller, Ms Maidwell said.
She was fined $500 and a conviction was recorded.
Page pleaded not guilty to one count of dangerously operating a vehicle and that matter was adjourned to September 29 for hearing.
