A Covid close contact who was told to leave the Gympie Magistrates Court three times for fear she would spread the virus has faced court for drug offences and obstructing police.

Shenoa Elizabeth Abbey pleaded guilty on Tuesday, October 25 to obstructing police, possessing cannabis, possessing an electric grinder and possessing a water pipe.

She previously appeared in court on August 22, 2022 despite confirming she was a Covid-19 close contact and having to be repeatedly told to leave the building.

The court heard Abbey was heard shouting and swearing in her yard on February 25 with some of the abusive language directed at her neighbours.

Police prosecutor Vicki Kennedy-Grills said Abbey threatened to burn down their houses, but Abbey told the court her words were not directed at her neighbours.

When police arrived at her house they saw a vehicle belonging to a wanted man in the yard, the court heard.

When the car was mentioned, Abbey became aggressive and told police they had no permission to be on her property.

She called them “busted c----” and threatened to post a video of them to Tik Tok, Sergeant Kennedy-Grills said.

Abbey said she had recently bought the car and Sgt Kennedy-Grills confirmed the wanted man was not found at the house.

Abbey’s partner had been sent back to jail and her father had been hospitalised on the day of the disturbance, which was why she had gone on to her verandah to pace around and scream her frustrations, she said.

Abbey works as a milker in the dairy industry and a kitchen hand at Rainbow Beach.

She told the magistrate she had quit smoking for six months and got a prescription for medicinal cannabis the day after she was charged.

“Good on you,” magistrate Chris Callaghan said.

Abbey was fined $400 and convictions were recorded. She can exchange the fine for community service if she wishes.
