P-plater clocked doing 200km/h on Bruce Highway south of Gympie

A 20-year-old driver has been taken off the road until at least 2022 after being caught driving at an insanely high speed near Gympie.

A P-Plater has lost his licence and been fined $1800 after being caught travelling at almost 200km/h on the Bruce Highway near Federal, south of Gympie.

The 20-year-old from Booral was caught as he allegedly hit 199km/h in a 110km/h zone just after midday on Sunday, July 25.

He was fined $1286 and another $551 for driving without due care and attention. He also lost eight demerit points.

The 20-year-old has been disqualified from driving for six months.
