Police are calling for “any small amount of information” after a terrifying and violent attack on the Bruce Highway just north of the Caloundra exit.
A man heading to Caboolture from Gympie with his four-year-old daughter in the back seat was left with a severely damaged vehicle after an enraged driver allegedly stopped in front of him, got out and attacked his car with a weapon, while the man’s four-year-old daughter sat in the back seat.
The man and his daughter were travelling in a white 2015 Holden Colorado between 6:15-6.45pm on Sunday, March 10, and were just south of the on-ramp from the Sunshine Motorway at Sippy Downs when the man noticed a light workman’s truck with concreting type equipment in the back (a wheelbarrow and cement mixer) driving in the right lane of the highway.
“The driver of the Colorado was in the left lane and indicated to merge right in front of the truck,” police said in a statement.
Once merged the truck driver is alleged to have hit the rear end of the Colorado, forcing the the car back into the left lane as the father was “fearful of further collisions”.
It is alleged the driver of the truck then sped up, and merged back into the left lane in front of the Colorado to prevent it from passing.
The driver of the Colorado slowed his vehicle to pull into what he believed was an emergency stopping bay north of the Palmview exit and just before the Caloundra exit.
According to police, the truck also pulled over in front of him, and the the driver got out and allegedly produced weapons which he used to attack the Colorado.
“The truck driver … smashed the Colorado’s front headlights, damaged the bonnet and shattered the rear passengers window where his daughter was sitting,” police allege.
They are calling on anyone with information on the alleged attack or anyone who may have dashcam footage to come forward.
