Police investigating stolen cars left torched at Widgee, Cedar Pocket

Two stolen vehicles have been torched and abandoned across the Gympie region, prompting a police investigation as they urge anyone with information to come forward.

Police are calling for anyone with information about two stolen cars which were torched and abandoned in rural parts of the Gympie region.

The first car was found along East Deep Creek Rd, near Cedar Pocket, in the early hours of Saturday March 18.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said the car was “well alight” when crews arrived shortly after 12.40am.

They remained at the scene for more than an hour.

Police said Thursday the car was reported stolen from a Bowen Hills address.

Little more than 24 hours later emergency crews were called to another burning car at Widgee, left at a property near the intersection of Reid and Stegemann roads.

The QFES spokesman said crews arrived to find the car ablaze, burning about 30m away from a barn and tractor.

A grassfire had broken out nearby.

Police said on Thursday that investigations were underway.

Officers have urged anyone with information to come forward.
